March 17, 2020 Message from Pastor Kevin

Posted by Pamela Gonzalez on OA11er @ 11:04

Concerned for the health and well-being for our staff, congregation, and community we serve, we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to suspend all worship services, activities and meetings at First United Methodist Church effective immediately through March 29. As you know, this situation is ever-changing, and will be reassessed as we go. If concerns warrant that this date be extended into April, we will let you know.

The only exception will be for the Men’s Shelter on Monday evenings. On Tuesday mornings, the areas used by the men and volunteers, including Tower Chapel, the kitchen, and restrooms, will be cleaned and sanitized.

During this time,

  •      Although the church will be closed to the public, all staff will be working in their areas of ministry; connecting with people in their areas and with the congregation. There will be staff on-site throughout the week.
  •      If you are hospitalized, please let us know by calling the church at 465-1661, or inform the hospital chaplain who will contact us.
  •      Worship will be offered on-line every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. No classes or small groups will meet.
  •      Worship opportunities and devotionals will also be posted on our Facebook page (search Valpo FUMC) and website on a regular basis. Please be alert for these opportunities.
  •      Your children’s, youth, and worship staff will be working on creative opportunities to connect with our people and the community.

To get through this time, we ask for your continuous prayers for wellness and wisdom as we seek to do ministry in unprecedented circumstances. You can continue to supportour ministries financially through:

  •      our website (www.valpofumc.org/giving),
  •      the MyChurch app (Pam in the office can help you set this up over the phone),
  •      setting up a regular direct donation from your bank account (contact Kate in the office to help you set    this up),
  •      by mailing your donation to the church at 103 Franklin Street, Valparaiso, IN 46383.

Finally, know that our intention and focus is to be voices of hope and peace in the midst of sickness and anxiety; to be the answer to despair without contributing to it. God’s word to Isaiah have come to mind: For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion for you. (Isaiah 54:10)

Until all know,
Pastor Kevin Miller
Senior Pastor
