Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located and what times are your worship services?

A map and worship service times can be quickly accessed on our "Directions" page

What are your worship services like and how long are they?

We have three different worship services on Sunday mornings to meet the diverse needs of our community.

  • At 8:00 a.m. we offer our Contemplative Worship Service, which offers a lessor amount of traditional music, a devotional atmosphere, a sermon and is shorter in duration than our other two services at about 45 minutes. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.
  • At 9:15 a.m. we offer our Traditional Worship Service, which offers a greater amount of traditional music, a Children's Moment and a sermon. Typically, baptisms and prayers for outgoing mission teams are held at this service. The duration of this service typically lasts about an hour. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month.
  • At 11:00 we offer a Contemporary Worship Service with a praise band, contemporary music and a relaxed atmosphere. The duration of our 11:00 a.m. service lasts about an hour. Communion is served every week at this contemporary service.

What is typical attire?

We encourage everyone to wear what makes them comfortable. Some people wear jeans and some people dress up, and everything in between. Come as you are!

Is childcare available?

Nursery care is available for children from birth to 4 yrs. old during all three of our worship services.

What about the kids?

On Sunday mornings, we have Sunday School programs for children in grades pre-K through 5th grade during our 9:15 traditional and 11:00 contemporary services. Visit our children's page located under the heading of "family".

On the first Sunday of the month, to encourage children to worship with their families and to participate in Communion, there are no Sunday School classes.

Sunday School for the youth, grades 6 through high school, meet during the 9:15 service, even on the first Sunday of each month.

What do you believe?

Our mission statement is "Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World." Methodists have open hearts and open minds and welcome anyone interested in learning about the Christian faith. More information is available on our "What We Believe" page on this website.

How many people do you have on staff?

Visit our staff page and take a few minutes to get to know us. Valpo FUMC is a dynamic and busy place, and it takes a number of staff people to keep things running.

In addition, we have a group of wonderful volunteers who do so much around our church to make it the friendly and pleasant place that it is.
